Well-Being, Pastoral Care, and Student Development

At Cambridge College Lima, we prioritise instilling core values in our students, including humility, responsibility, honesty, solidarity, tolerance, fair play, and above all, respect. To support this goal, our school psychologists have developed a Tutor Programme, designed to reinforce parents' formative efforts and promote the healthy social and emotional development of our Junior students.

The Junior School is divided into two Phases:

  • Phase 1: Reception to 2nd Grade
  • Phase 2: 3rd Grade to 5th Grade

Each Phase is overseen by a Headteacher and psychologist, who work together to ensure students' well-being. These staff members, alongside the level Head, form the Junior Leadership Team, which addresses student concerns, communicates with families and identifies students needing additional support.

Our Junior School enforces an anti-bullying policy, regularly conducting activities to keep students safe, informed, and vigilant. In cases of bullying or violence, psychologists intervene professionally, following school guidelines. Additionally, all teachers are trained to support pastoral care for the benefit of our student community.

The Orientation department comprises psychologists assigned to each school level, with the primary goal of supporting students through collaboration with parents and teachers. The team implements the Personal Development programme for all Junior School students and provides individual counselling and close follow-up for those needing additional support.

Additionally, the orientation team assists parents in understanding their children’s learning journey by organising talks, discussions, orientation meetings, and distributing bulletins on topics of general interest.

Cambridge College is a secular school that values and respects diverse religious beliefs. From 1st Grade, students have the option to take a Catholic religion course. In 4th Grade, those participating are prepared to receive the sacrament of Communion outside school hours, guided by a priest appointed by the Archdiocese.

For students exempt from this course, an alternative Moral Studies programme is offered.

The Buddy programme fosters a sense of camaraderie among students, supporting a smooth transition from Early Years to Junior School. At the start of each school year, every 5th Grade student is appointed as a "buddy" to a Reception student. Through various activities, the programme aims to help Reception children adapt to the Junior School environment, building their confidence and sense of security with the support of their Fifth-Grade buddies.

For the older buddies, the programme instils a sense of responsibility and community identity as they assist younger students in an empathetic and meaningful way.

Mediators are a group of 5th-grade primary school students who promote peaceful coexistence during recess. Their mission is to intervene in conflicts as neutral third parties, guiding and supporting both sides to reach a resolution. These students are highly respected by their Junior School peers and embody the values of Cambridge School.

Students interested in becoming Mediators can express their interest to their class teacher. Once accepted into the programme, they officially enrol in a course and receive training from the psychologists in the Guidance Department. During the course, they learn conflict resolution skills, develop the qualities of an effective conciliator, and are equipped with guidelines for assisting children in resolving issues.

From Reception to 5th Grade, all Junior School students participate in the Student Council election. These elections select "Senators" for each Grade, with each elected student assigned a specific role based on their committee.

The Student Council committees are responsible for student participation in the following associations: Cambridge Green, Cambridge Action, Library, Buddies, Mediators, and Cultural Events. Each committee is guided by an "Associated Teacher" who supports the "Senators" and their teams.

All 5th Grade students serve as “Councillors” and actively contribute to one of the committees led by the "Senators."

Junior School pupils attend weekly assemblies. The annual assembly programme ensures that all classes participate in at least one division assembly during the school year. Assemblies provide an opportunity to address and discuss various topics, foster a sense of community, and celebrate the following:

  • Exhibitions of student work in academic, artistic, and psychomotor areas.
  • Academic achievements and participation in ADECOPA and BSP events.
  • Student sporting and artistic accomplishments.
  • Student birthdays that happened during the week.
